Feel the anger

ON SATURDAY the anger over the Nazi bombing of the Soho pub could be felt on the streets. 220 copies of Socialist Worker were sold in Birmingham High Street, 198 in Liverpool's Bold Street, 150 at Newcastle's Monument, 120 in Bristol's Broadmead, 38 in Aberdeen and 22 on a new sale in Worcester. On Clydeside on Saturday 167 papers were sold in Glasgow's Argyle Street, 104 in Paisley, 36 in Port Glasgow and 33 in Battlefield. London sales included 146 in Hackney's Mare Street, 94 in East Ham, 82 in Romford, 79 in Holloway, 66 in Bethnal Green, 62 in Dalston, 52 in both Poplar and the Angel, 47 in Peckham and 45 in Euston. Manchester sales included 245 in Market Street, 68 in Stockport, 55 in Cheetham Hill and 35 in Swinton.

55 papers were sold door to door in the Cardiff Central constituency on Monday, 35 in Paisley South, 22 in Garthdee in Aberdeen, 22 on the Briton Ferry estate near Neath, 15 on the Sandfield estate in Port Talbot, 13 in just one block of flats in Brick Lane on Sunday and 10 in St Pauls in Bristol.

Workplace sales included 20 at McVitie's biscuits in West London, 18 at Manchester Town Hall, 16 at North Manchester General Hospital, 15 at Newcastle Civic Centre, 13 at Chivas Regal in Paisley and 11 at Royal Alexandra Hospital, 12 at Glacier Metals in Glasgow and 11 at Ferguson's shipyard in Greenock.

118 people have joined the SWP over the last week: 10 in Glasgow; 8 in Paisley and on the demonstrations in central London on Saturday following the Soho bombing; 3 in Waltham Forest, Cardiff, Bristol and at a south east London anti-war meeting; 2 in Port Glasgow, Newcastle and Nottingham University; 1 in Edinburgh, Liverpool, Liverpool University, John Moore's University, Halifax, on the Market Street sale in Manchester, Cheetham Hill, Stockport, Nottingham, Birmingham, Birmingham University, Worcester, Peckham, Bethnal Green, London School of Economics, and on a lobby of Hackney Council over nursery cuts. 20 joined at the Manchester SWP May Day rally; 8 at the north London rally; 5 at each of the Hackney, Liverpool and east London rallies; 4 in the Black Country; 3 in Sheffield and Birmingham; 2 in Nottingham; and 1 in central London, York and Bristol.
